Deformation Monitoring

Reliable subsurface and surface movement monitoring for slopes,
embankments, structures and foundations.

Detect movement early – before it threatens stability.

Ground and structural movement often begins subtly: a millimetre of settlement, a shift in slope angle, a change in internal strain. Left unmonitored, these early indicators can develop into failures that impact safety, production and operational continuity.
Our solutions

Comprehensive Deformation
Monitoring Solutions.

We provide a full range of deformation monitoring systems designed to detect movement in slopes, embankments, foundations and structures. From deep borehole sensors to surface displacement tools, each solution is engineered for long-term accuracy and seamless integration into modern data platforms.

Deformation Monitoring

Deformation monitoring combines subsurface and surface measurement technologies to track how ground and structures move over time. Our solutions range from deep borehole instrumentation to wide-area displacement systems, all engineered for accuracy, longterm reliability and performance in harsh mining and civil environments.

We provide supply and installation of distributed fibre optic systems for continuous, high-resolution measurements.

Capabilities

Distributed Strain (DSS)

  • Detects strain along the entire cable length

  • Identifies shear zones, deformation, settlement, bending

Distributed Temperature (DTS)

  • Identifies seepage, leaks, thermal movement, groundwater behaviour

Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS)

  • Detects vibrations and acoustic energy

  • Useful for slope activity, cracking events, or pipeline disturbances

Integration With Groundwater Monitoring

Ground deformation and pore pressure behaviour are often closely linked. By integrating deformation sensors with groundwater instrumentation, we provide a more complete understanding of effective stress, shear strength and slope or embankment stability. This combined approach helps engineers diagnose causes of movement and manage risk with greater confidence.
Many forms of ground deformation are directly influenced by pore water pressure. Changes in pore pressure affect effective stress and shear strength, which in turn influence:
  • Slope stability
  • TSF embankment behaviour
  • Foundation performance
  • Consolidation and settlement
For this reason, deformation and groundwater monitoring are often deployed together to build a more complete understanding of behaviour and risk.

In other applications—such as structures founded directly on competent bedrock—the interaction between pore pressure and deformation is more site-dependent, and groundwater data may only play a supplementary role.

We base the monitoring design on site-specific conditions and engineering requirements.

Telemetry & Data Integration

All deformation instruments can be connected into a unified telemetry network, enabling continuous or scheduled data acquisition, long-range communication and real-time visualisation. Our data platforms support alarms, event detection and combined groundwater–deformation datasets, giving engineers clear, reliable insight into how ground and structural behaviour evolves over time.
All deformation instruments can be fully integrated into modern telemetry systems, enabling:
  • Continuous or periodic data acquisition
  • Low-power long-range communication
  • Real-time dashboards and visualisation
  • Alarm thresholds and event notifications
  • Unified platforms combining groundwater + deformation datasets
  • Underground and surface deployments
